The Beginning - Prologue
How I Came Back to Miniatures and Why That is Not an Entirely Bad Thing
Last week I made the decision to get back into wargaming after an absence of some twenty years. Inspired by trialsofacasualwargamer and a rising tide of algorithmically-driven social media posts I finally succambe* and put the Blood Bowl boxed game on my Christmas list. My wife assures me Santa will be generous (if a little confused).
Honestly, I’m not sure if this is a good idea. I have a 6-month-old daughter, a nursery to decorate, a kitchen renovation to complete and a house extension to plan. Oh and work, I guess. Starting a hobby that’s notorious for consuming vast tracts of time is probably the antithesis of a good idea.
And yet here I am with my shiny new paints, brushes, cutters, glue, and three box-fresh space marines ready to practice on. Mr Trials – if this ends in disaster and divorce, I’m blaming you.
Here goes…
* The past tense of “succumb” in standard English is “succumbed”; but that just sounds stupid and I prefer “succambe”. Feel free to argue but know that I am correct, and you are wrong. I don’t read or respond to comments, tweets, DMs or any other electronic missive so don’t bother; if you send me a letter or find me in person then kudos (you’ll still be wrong though).
